Janet Sutherland is a former Chicago radio reporter where she was heard covering Supreme Court cases, Illinois legislation, health news and prison stories on WMAQ, WLS, WGN, KMOX, UPI Radio and 75 plus radio stations on the Illinois and Wisconsin Radio Networks. As a result of covering breaking news stories; the deadly Plainfield/Lemont Tornado, Joliet Correctional prison escape, her newsroom was the recipient of AP awards. While a journalist Sutherland ‘s news stories were distributed on ABC News, AP and UPI wire services and aired on at least 75 radio stations in the Midwest. She has also written and produced cable television public affairs programs. She was also a feature freelance writer for The Daily Herald and a sports stringer for The Chicago Sun Times. Sutherland worked with the Illinois News Broadcaster’s Association in speaking engagements at local colleges. She also served on the Junior Board of the Museum of Broadcast Communications which involved organizing “The Salute to Larry King”.
She has worked in marketing in cable television and has syndicated national radio shows and news networks including CNN, CBS and Fox. Her marketing background includes local and national radio in which she managed a team on the east coast and negotiated major market news affiliation agreements. In print marketing, Sutherland oversaw 4 million dollars in campaigns. Sutherland has a vast political background. She has crafted multiple state bills for a national nonprofit, spoken to members of Congress and has collaborated with state lawmakers on statewide health initiatives. She has spoken to members of Congress and state health committees on behalf of legislation for brain aneurysm awareness.
Sutherland has written and produced a national public service announcement for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. The PSA is airing over seven thousand radio stations around the country. I have written a children's book published last year. Another book about my brain aneurysm is being launched this spring!! -
