- Ray Ziemer was born and bred on Chicago’s south side, where he discovered Dr. Seuss, memorized Longfellow, and imitated Kerouac. He has taught English from junior high to college and worked in commercial construction but never stopped writing. His poetry embraces yet strives to escape this history. His short stories take the reader from the familiar to the fantastic. Ziemer’s young adult novel The Ghost of Jamie McVay also bridges that expanse, set as it is in a familiar suburban world, but assailed by dark forces both real and supernatural. Ziemer participates in local writing groups, contributing to the journals Prairie Light Review and Rivulets, and is a frequent featured reader at Waterline Writers in Batavia, Illinois. His science fiction stories have appeared in Bards and Sages Quarterly and podcast in Cast of Wonders online. He teaches writing at the College of DuPage and is a practicing genealogist. His electronic home page is at rgziemer.com. Otherwise he physically dwells on the West Branch of the DuPage River in a Chicago, Illinois suburb where he can sometimes be found poling and paddling downstream with Sparky the Canoe Dog in the bow.
