- Chad H. Thomas took over as principal at Sullivan High School in July 2013. At the time, it was one of the most violent high schools in the district and had been on academic probation for 9 years. Chad was able to restore the school and community quickly. Within two years they were off academic probation and became a leading practitioner in Chicago Public Schools for restorative practices, behavioral health and personalized learning. Chad recently gave his first-ever TED Talk on his decade of innovation and success as a principal. Chad's work at Sullivan is captured in the book “Refugee High – Coming of Age in America,” featured in NPR’s This American Life, and the Washington Post, and he has been published in the book "Breakthrough Principals."
