- Amy Funk earned her B.S. in Psychology (1990) and M.A. in Gerontology (1991) from Western Illinois University. She completed her B.S.N. from Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing (2012). In 2015, Dr. Funk earned her Ph.D. from Illinois State University. Dr. Funk has expertise in mental health, community health, gerontology, and palliative care nursing. She currently teaches at Illinois Wesleyan University. She writes non-fiction pieces on grief, aging, resiliency and mindfulness. She is primarily a qualitative researcher and has published studies on sibling grief, gerontology and palliative care. She is co-author of “27 Signs”, an ethnodrama on sibling grief. She writes poetry and stories for fun and therapy.
