CWA’S Literary Bus Tour a Success!
by Jennifer Brown Banks
Forget what you’ve been told.
The countless media reports that would have you believe that Chicago is a town exclusively characterized by staggering crime rates and increasing violence.
C.W.A.’s Literary Bus Tour served as a timely and needed reminder of just how beautiful Chicago is, and how fortunate we are to live in a city that is vibrant, diverse, unique and rich in culture.
(Despite the unfortunate incidents that plague our town).
On Saturday, I was pleased to be a participant (along with about 50 other folks) on this inaugural tour. The cold weather was met with warm people and a spirit of adventure-- as we explored important things to see, places to be, and the finest in what this city has to offer.
As we navigated the city, we pointed out our favorite places, talked, giggled, and made writers’ scribbles while taking in all the sights.
Highlights included visits to the Cliff Dweller’s Club, Oz Park and Nelson Algren’s apartment, and a delicious lunch at Billy Goat Tavern.
By the end of our journey (around 2:30 p.m.), we not only expanded our literary horizons and knowledge of the city, but also our circle of friends.
Except for a few technical glitches, it was a lovely way to spend a Saturday, and well worth the price of admission.
A special thanks to George Rawlinson for serving as a great tour guide and organizer.
