The feature presentation of the 4th Annual Writers Block Party, to be held 1 – 4 PM Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin, will be a Skype interview and panel discussion on the topic “Scripting Your Story.”
David Congalton, the writer of “Authors Anonymous,” a 2014 movie about a dysfunctional group of unpublished writers starring Chris Klein, Kaley Cuoco and Dennis Farina, will participate in a Skye interview with author Sandra Colbert(“Chicago Bound”) from his home in Southern California. David has a second screenplay, “Seven Sisters,” which is currently under Option with director Danny Leiner attached.
Following the Skype interview, we will have a panel discussion, moderated by CWA President Tori Collins. The panel will feature a diverse mix of screenwriters from Illinois and Wisconsin. Here are brief bios for the four panelists:
Dan Burns' screenplay, “A Fine Line,” won the Best Screenplay Award at the Naperville Independent Film Festival (NIFF) Awards Gala. The screen adaptation of his short story, “Out of Touch,” based upon the story from No Turning Back: Stories, is now in production, directed by Danny Ahlfeld, with a cast including Michael McDermott Murphy, Julia Kessler, Paul D'Addario, and Ron Dean.
Rebecca Williams Spindler was awarded First Place in the 2nd Annual Project Famous Short Screenplay Competition. Her script, “Wrong Number Right Day,” will be produced by Project Famous Films for release in 2016.
Peggy Williams and Christine DeSmet co-write screenplays, some of which have been optioned. Their award-winning, “Chinaware-Fragile” (with additional co-written by Bob Shill), was recently featured in a Huffington Post article.
Following the discussion there will be an opportunity for attendees to meet the panelists during a social networking “Writers Block Party.” Light snacks and soft drinks will be served.
This free event is co-sponsored by Chicago Writers Association and its Rockford affiliate, In Print.
